Love you ladies. There is so much shame for ADHD and not being able to finish books. We can approach so many things like this in new light. Looking forward to it
Really like this approach - will be following along! I started and ran out of steam with AW but actually really enjoyed it so knew that I needed to find a way to make it work for me (parent of 3, small biz owner, etc etc)
So I’ve decided to give myself a month for each chapter 😜
The thing that made me really upset was when Julia Cameron writes that an Artist's Date doesn't count if you're walking your dog. ! Walking my dog brings me so much joy!
I suspect her rigidness in this process comes from her also having an AA background. For anyone unfamiliar with Alcoholics Anonymous they take a very rigid, dogmatic approach to sobriety so it doesn’t surprise me that we see that reflected in the artists way.
Oh yeah, 100%. It definitely makes sense, and honestly, the results are probably a lot more significant when followed as she describes. But! Some of us need a more loosey-goosey approach 😅
This is so needed - I've been wanting to try it again but with lots of things it seemed like too big a commitment. Even though I'm sure Julia Cameron wouldn't want us prolonging our creativity for a 'better time'
this is almost exactly what i decided to do starting in the new year. Try to read the book, write for ~5 min a day (oops, I type mine), and do something alone and out of the house for like, an hour a week (not the easiest with a toddler, but doable). Looking forward to hear how your journeys shake out!
I’m on week 2! Y’all inspired me to do what is attainable for me (morning pages when possible, one artist date a week, and 1-3 exercises). This has worked the best with my schedule and my own ADHD tendencies. 💪
I also like picking/choosing exercises because I think it leaves more options if I ever decide to do The Artist’s Way again.
I don’t even have ADHD but I deeply resonate with how overwhelming “The Artist’s Way” feels. I’m grateful for this reframe and new ways to think about how to implement these exercises!

Totally agree! We're looking forward to it too!

LOVE that!
Amazing idea!
I like this bare-bones approach. I think this is much more attainable than the full approach.

oh YES. it’s so good for the soul
The number of times I’ve tried to start a morning pages routine and failed miserably is insane
may we don’t do them! haha

I think she would approve of the BMAW 😆
